Hammond Lumber Company supports a corporate culture that embraces workplace safety and responsibility. In a historically hazardous industry, Hammond Lumber Company has consistently been recognized for its safety record.
Hammond Lumber Company is committed to preventing accidents and providing a safe and healthy workplace for all of its employees and customers. The entire company is dedicated to finding new and innovative ways to maintain their excellent safety program and remain on the cutting edge in the areas of safety and wellness.
Hammond Lumber Company established a Safety Committee in 1985. Since that time, the Safety Committee, chaired by Safety Director, Bruce Pelletier, has met monthly to identify and correct potential health and safety hazards. Policies on correct safety procedures for all areas of the company are discussed and formulated at these meeting.
Our Sawmill and Planer mill employees have received numerous Safety Awards from the Northeast Lumber Manufacturers Association Loss Control Committee over the years.
To support this aggressive safety program, Hammond Lumber Company provides extensive safety training and re-training for all of its employees. In April of 1991 Hammond Lumber Company finalized its own, company specific Health and Safety Manual. Since then, the Safety Manual has been presented to and reviewed with all new employees on their first day of hire.
In addition, Hammond Lumber Company participates in the Maine Department of Transportation Drug Screening program, and has a comprehensive Back-to-Work program.
